While at UConn: Will serve as 2022-23 team co-captain with Andre Jackson Jr.... BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year... BIG EAST Player of the Year candidate and All-American candidate… One of two returning starters… Has had enormous impact in his first two years at UConn, appearing in 52 games, starting 48, averaging 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, with a .518 field goal percentage, .664 free throw percentage, and 76 blocked shots… Has 10 career double-doubles… As a sophomore, named First Team All-BIG EAST, one of five finalists for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, USBWA All-District I Team… As a freshman, named to BIG EAST All-Freshman Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team… Enters 2022-23 season with longest active streak of consecutive games started with 20.
As a Sophomore in 2021-22: Appeared in 29 games, starting 28, missed four in first weeks of December with abdominal strain… Averaged 14.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, shot .504 overall, .686 from the foul line and blocked 55 shots… Had 22 double-figure scoring games, 10 double-figure rebounding games and nine double-doubles, including in three consecutive games… Led BIG EAST in rebounding (8.9), led UConn in rebounding (8.8), offensive rebounding (3.6) and field goals made (179)…  Named to Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament Team, highlighted by career-high 30 points vs. nationally-ranked Auburn… Grabbed career-high 18 rebounds vs. St. John’s (1/12/22)… Named BIG EAST Player of the Week twice, named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times.
As a Freshman in 2020-21: Played in all 23 games as a true freshman, starting 20, including the last 19... Averaged 7.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and led team and ranked fifth in BIG EAST with .554 field goal percentage... His 21 blocks ranked second on the team... Had career-high 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in win at Seton Hall (3/3/21)... Had first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Georgetown (3/6/21)... Had seven double-figure scoring games, including four of the last five games of the season… Twice named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Before College: Late recruit who reclassified from 2021 to 2020, considered a Top 75 recruit... Came to UConn after spending 2019-20 at The Patrick School (Hillside, N.J.) under Coach Chris Chavannes... Averaged 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds in 14 games in 2019-20... Considered the No. 7 center in the Class of 2021 before reclassifying... Also played for the New York Rens AAU team on the Nike EYBL circuit, under Coach Andy Borman... Participated in Basketball Without Borders, a global basketball camp, in Chicago during NBA All-Star Weekend in 2020... Originally from Mali, grew up playing soccer until starting to play basketball in 2014... Came to the U.S. to attend Our Savior New American School (Centereach, N.Y.), but after a coaching change there, transferred to Patrick School.
