Roy Honored By New Jersey Sports Writers Association

Edison, NJ - University of Connecticut men's track and field head coach Greg Roy has been named College Track Coach of the Year by the New Jersey Sports Writers Association.
One of numerous awards presented annually by the NJSWA given in order to honor pro and collegiate athletes and sports personalities from New Jersey will be presented to Roy at the NJSWA 65th anniversary banquet in February. A native of East Brunswick, NJ, Roy directed Connecticut to its seventh straight New England Indoor Track and Field Championship in 2000 before completing a sweep by claiming the school's first New England outdoor crown since 1975.
In his 16th year at UConn, the award is Roy's third coach of the year distinction for his efforts during the 1999-2000 season and the ninth on his career. Earlier this year, Roy received Northeast Region Men's Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year laurels. Along with the aforementioned three awards are the following: NCAA District I Indoor Coach of the Year (1993, 96, 98), NCAA Division I Outdoor Coach of the Year (1996), NCAA District I Cross Country Coach of the Year (1990), New England Cross Country Coach of the Year (1990).
UConn's 2000-2001 indoor track and field slate begins December 2 as the Huskies travel to Providence, RI for the Brown Invitational.
