Huskies Conclude Day One at NCAA East First Round

LEXINGTON, KY - The first day of competition at the NCAA East Region First Round came to a close on Wednesday night with five members of the UConn men's track and field team in action at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
UConn freshman Marshall Potter got his first taste of NCAA action and competed in Wednesday's hammer and shot put events. In the hammer, Potter turned in a 19th place finish in the field of 48 competitors and did so with a new personal best throw of 64.29m. Potter would come back at night to throw the shot put and 37th with a toss of 17.39m.
Classmate Thomas Bannon also got his first NCAA experience under his belt competing with grad student Connor Hayford in the javelin. Bannon was 16th in the field with a throw of 65.31m. Hayford was just on his heels in 18th place with a throw of 64.76m.
On the track, junior Medwin Odamtten ran the 100m dash and was 30th in the first round of qualifying with a time of 10.32 seconds. Junior OJ Singletary ran in the 400m hurdles first round and was 44th in 52.56 seconds.
The UConn women are in action on Thursday as Brooklyn Taylor will compete in the long jump, Brooke Strauss will run the 1,500m and Chloe Trudel will close the night in the 10,000m.
