Women's Tennis Soars Past Hartford, 5-4

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Oct. 26) - After four and a half hours of play, the University of Connecticut women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 win versus the University of Hartford on Oct. 26 in West Hartford.
For the Huskies, sophomore Colleen Connors (Ormond Beach, Fla.) defeated Alexis Alexander, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, while senior Christine Vorvis (Southport, Conn.) battled Crystallia Leontiadis, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6, at No. 4.
Sophomore Katie Olsen (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and junior Melanie Polanco (New Haven, Conn.) rounded out the remaining singles victories to give UConn the extra points needed to edge the Hawks.
In doubles action, Connors would combine with sophomore Trinell Russel (Voorheesville, N.Y.) to bring down Sabine Dyrchs and Alexander, 9-7, at the No. 1 position.
"It was an unbelievable, lengthy match under the lights, but we took it home," UConn coach Glenn Marshall said.
This was the second consecutive dual match and win for the Huskies in two days. UConn defeated Holy Cross, 8-1, on Oct. 25. The Connecticut women (4-3 overall, 0-1 BIG EAST) and men next host UMass for a pair of Homecoming Weekend dual matches on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon.
