Men's Tennis Defeats Minutemen, Women Fall To UMass

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 28) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated regional rival UMass, 5-2, while its women's team fell, 6-0, in dual matches on Oct. 28 in Storrs, Conn.
Sophomore Mike Furman (Allentown, Pa.) led the Huskies in the top singles spot, dropping Steve Prisco, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Max Zubatsky (Milwaukee, Wis.), freshman Andy Sweatt (Reno, Nev.) and senior Bryan Adinolfi (Hamden, Conn.) wrapped up the Connecticut wins in singles.
UConn nearly swept the doubles matches on the men's side. The freshman duo of Jono Talbot (Allendale, N.J.) and Sweatt handed Aron Gortman and Rory Theis an 8-4 loss at No. 2, while sophomore Joe Lang (Winchester, Mass.) and senior Luke Grimshaw (Frederick, Md.) won a hard fought 9-8 proset at No. 3. Lang and Grimshaw own the best UConn doubles record to-date at 9-3 on the season.
The Husky women did not post any singles wins and would not proceed in doubles matches with the match outcome foreseen.
Both Connecticut programs head to their respective regional championships next week. The men travel to Virginia Tech on Nov. 2-6, while the women compete at William & Mary on Nov. 4-7, to wrap up their fall season.
