A second-half comeback bid fell short as the struggling 15th-ranked Huskies completed a disappointing road trip with a 77-74 Big East Conference loss to Miami, saddling them with their first three-game losing streak in four years.
Down 59-49 midway through the second half, Connecticut (13-5, 2-3 Big East) closed to 73-71 with 14 seconds left on a layup by freshman Caron Butler, who scored 25 points.
But Miami (10-7, 2-4) clinched the victory behind four straight free throws by John Salmons. It marked the third straight season the Hurricanes beat Connecticut.
Marcus Barnes scored 24 points and Salmons added 16 for Miami, which has won two straight following a four-game losing streak.
Albert Mouring and Edmund Saunders contributed 14 points apiece for the Huskies, who started the trip with losses to Providence and Texas.
