UConn All-Century Men’s Basketball Team Awards Celebration Postponed
STORRS, CONNECTICUT—The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics has postponed its UConn Men’s Basketball All-Century Team Awards Celebration.
UConn had planned to formally recognize and honor its recently-named 25-member Men’s Basketball All-Century Team this summer but scheduling conflicts for many of UConn’s active professional athletes required postponement of the awards celebration.
“In order to appropriately recognize the proud history of UConn basketball and each of our honoree’s contributions to our basketball program, we feel our All-Century Team celebration must be held at a time when all, or nearly all, of the team members will be in
attendance,” said UConn Director of Athletics Lew Perkins. “This summer presented numerous scheduling conflicts, including summer league play and international competition, for many of our UConn All-Century Team stars who are enjoying highly-successful careers in professional basketball. We are confident we will identify a future
date which will fit into the busy schedules of each of our All-Century squad members.”
The 25-member UConn Men’s Basketball All-Century Team includes 10 guards, nine forwards, and six centers. Connecticut two-time All-American Ray Allen, currently an NBA All-Star with the Milwaukee Bucks, was the leading vote-getter in fan balloting conducted during the 2000-2001 season. Allen will serve as Honorary Captain of the
UConn Men’s Basketball All-Century Team.
