UConn Sweeps New Hampshire for

STORRS, CT – In Saturday action at the IKON Husky Classic, Connecticut defeated New Hampshire, 3-0, to race to a 3-0 start on the young season. The victory was the Huskies’ third “sweep” in as many matches. With the loss, New Hampshire falls to 1-2.
The Huskies were led by junior middle hitter Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) who recorded 13 kills en route to an impressive .478 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA) also registered ten kills, her third straight game with double digit kills. Sophomore setter Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) also contributed a double-double in the Husky winning effort, adding 21 assists and ten digs.
The match started with a tight first game with UConn rallying from a late-game deficit to take the game by the score of 32-30. New Hampshire was paced by freshman outside hitter Alyson Coler who recorded 12 kills. In the second game the Huskies showed more poise, registering a .314 team hitting percentage on the way to the 30-21 victory. The final game was all UConn, as the Huskies dominated the Wildcats 30-12.
UConn takes on California tomorrow, September 2, at 2 p.m. in the final match of the IKON Husky Classic. California and UMass battle in today’s final match at 7 p.m.
