Werkmeister and Kutlu Earn All-Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky.--- Senior outside hitter Emma Werkmeister and graduate student setter Doga Kutlu have earned AVCA All-Region honors, announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday. Werkmeister was selected to the AVCA All-Region First Team and Kutlu earned an All-Region Honorable Mention.
After earning an AVCA All-Region honorable mention last season, Werkmeister becomes only the second Husky in program history to receive all-region honors in multiple seasons, joining Caylee Parker (2021 & 2022). Werkmeister was a unanimous pick for the All-BIG EAST Team, earning all-conference honors for the second straight season.
The senior from Victor, New York, started all 28 matches for the Huskies, leading the team with 406 kills. Werkmeister guided the Huskies to an 11-1 record in nonconference play, highlighted by a 13-kill, 10-dig, six-ace performance against South Dakota and a 21-kill effort against Colgate to earn Top Dogs Classic Tournament MVP. Werkmeister excelled at the service line this season, breaking the single-season BIG EAST record with 41 aces, including a single-game program record 10 against Providence on October 26th. She posted double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches and recorded her 1,000th career kill against Georgetown on October 17. Werkmeister concludes her UConn career solidly in the record books, finishing eighth in program history with 1,146 kills and fourth with 148 aces.Â
A two-time all-BIG EAST selection, Kutlu was named an all-region honorable mention, leading the UConn attack with a team-high 969 assists. Kutlu The graduate student from Turkey finished third in the BIG EAST with 9.23 assists per set. Kutlu was named BIG EAST Setter of the Week on October 6th after setting a new UConn career-high with 56 assists against St. John's on October 4th.
Kutlu notched multiple career milestones throughout the season, notching her 1000th career dig on November 8 and becoming only the sixth Husky in program history to surpass 3,000 career assists on November 14. In her three seasons in Storrs, Kutlu finished with 3,068 assists, 1,026 digs and 88 aces.
