Butler Named Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, RI (January 7) – University of Connecticut sophomore forward Caron Butler (Racine, WI) was named the Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Butler shares the honor with junior guard Brandin Knight of Pittsburgh.
Both players led their teams to 2-0 weeks which included wins over ranked opponents. Butler averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the Huskies. He tied a career high with 29 points against Virginia Tech and had 18 points in a 76-75 win over No. 21 (AP) Miami. Knight registered 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 77-74 victory at No. 11 Boston College. On the week, he averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds.
Butler, who was a three-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week selection a season ago, and the rest of the Huskies will look to make it two in a row over Top 25 opponents as No. 7 Oklahoma visits the Hartford Civic Center on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
