Storrs, CT (Oct. 26)-- The University of Connecticut women's basketball team hosted the annual Supershow on Saturday night at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion before a crowd of 7,375 fans. WNBA star and former Husky Sue Bird was on hand to emcee the event.
A preview of what's to come, the evening included a blue/white scrimmage and three-point contest. Junior Maria Conlon (Derby, CT) beat out junior Diana Taurasi (Chino, CA) and sophomore Stacy Marron (Albuquerque, NM) for the three-point shooting title, while Taurasi also took on a student from the crowd and won the shooting contest handedly.
The scrimmage featured the 2002-03 Huskies (blue team) versus a group of male practice players as well as Bird (white team). After two 15-minute running halves, the blue team defeated the whites, 49-41.
Taurasi led the team in scoring with 18 points, including 4-of-8 shooting from behind the three-point arc, while sophomore Jessica Moore (Palmer, AK) finished with 12 points and was perfect from the floor (5-5). Freshman Willnett Crockettt (Harbor City, CA) tied with Taurasi with a team-leading five rebounds. Freshmen Nicole Wolff (Walpole, MA) and Ann Strother (Castle Rock, CO) each chipped in five points in their Husky debut.
Ann Strother on tonight's Supershow-- "Tonight was awesome. It was really a lot of fun. I was a little nervous at first and have never played in front of so many people before. It was a great way to get started and get some jitters out."
