STORRS, CT (November 16) – The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team picked up its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win in a 3-1 come-from behind victory over Sacred Heart University on Saturday at the UConn Ice Arena. The Huskies improve to 2-6-1, 1-5-1 as the Pioneers fall to 3-4-2, 3-2-0.
Sacred Heart scored first, as Martin Paquet took a pass right outside the crease and shot it past netminder Jason Carey (Oakdale, MN). The first goal of the game was scored just under three minutes into the second period.
UConn took a while to get started, but came out strong in the third period, scoring just 4:11 into the third to tie the score at one. DJ Miller (Mount Lebanon, PA) took a shot from the top of the faceoff circle and knocked it off the crossbar for a goal. Less than five minutes later, Ron D’Angelo scored the game winner from inside the same circle and placed it over the shoulder of Kevin LaPointe. Eric St. Arnauld (Marquette, MI) notched goal three for the Huskies taking advantage of a tangle in front of the Pioneer net to seal the game for Connecticut.
Carey stopped 34 for the Huskies as LaPointe denied an identical 34. The Huskies out-shot the Pioneers, 37-35.
UConn returns to action of Friday, November 22 when they meet MAAC opponent Holy Cross on the road at 6:30.
