Gray and Marino Named to Football Staff

STORRS, CT (February 14, 2002)-- Torrian Gray and Vinny Marino have been named assistant football coaches, it was announced Thursday by University of Connecticut head football coach Randy Edsall. Gray will be responsible for the defensive backs and Marino will coach the Husky wide receivers.
"We are very fortunate to add two quality coaches to our staff," said Edsall. "Torrian is a guy who brings the experience of playing in the NFL and in the BIG EAST. That is a tremendous asset to our staff. Vinny is a coach who is very well-respected in our profession. I have gotten to know him through working at our summer camps and I have always been impressed. The fact that he is a UConn graduate and former player is another way for us to continue building our tradition and linking the past and present of UConn Football."
Gray is a 1996 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was a four-year letterwinner in the sport of football and a three-time All-BIG EAST Conference selection at the safety position. He was a second round selection of the Minnesota Vikings in the 1997 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the Vikings. He has spent the last two seasons as the defensive backs coach at the University of Maine.
Marino is a 1992 graduate of UConn where he was a member of the football team, earning two letters as a back-up quarterback. Marino spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island, coaching the running backs. In 1999, Marino coached the wide receivers and quarterbacks at the University of Richmond. From 1996-98, he was at Holy Cross, serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 1998 and coaching the running backs in 1996 and 1997. He also spent three seasons (1993-95) at Western Carolina and started his collegiate coaching career at Bowdoin College in 1992.
