The University of Connecticut football team held its weekly media luncheon on Tuesday at the Putnam Dining Hall on the Storrs campus as the Huskies prepare for Buffalo on Saturday. The following are some excerpts from the event.
Sophomore LB Alfred Fincher
On the Bulls:
"When I saw that they lost to Lehigh I was surprised but then when I saw that they beat Rutgers big I was also surprised. The difference between those two games for them was all mindset. That’s the key for us this week is getting our mindset right."
Sophomore OG Brian Markowski
On the offensive line’s outlook on the game:
"We’re going to take it like we take any other game and try to get a win. It’s the same stuff that we’ve seen. We just need to get better with our base fundamentals because we haven’t won yet and we need to start getting better. What they do is the same as what Georgia Tech did and the same as BC did in terms of blitzes and their way of attacking you. We just need to stop them from doing it."
Head Coach Randy Edsall
On preventing a letdown against Buffalo after facing Georgia Tech and Boston College:
"We treat every game the same and we’re trying to stress to our team that you go out and play hard every week regardless of the name on the jersey. If we can do that then I think we can put ourselves in a position to win and that’s the approach that we take. I think our kids have done that the first two weeks and I would expect them to go out and prepare very well this week and play as hard as we can. If we can take care of the things that we can take care of then that could put us in a position to be successful.
On the status of TB Terry Caulley:
"Terry practiced last night and he’ll practice again today. Barring unforeseen circumstances this week he’ll be ready to go on Saturday night."
On the inportance of the ground game:
"We want to be able to run the football and I would hope that each and every week we could run the football. If we get the right combination of guys working together on the line we’ll be able to get that. We need to be productive running the football. There’s no question about that because it really helps our passing game when we can run the ball."
