Shain and Murphy Earn Hockey East Accolades

STORRS, CT (November 18) -- UConn goaltenders Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) and Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) have been named Hockey East Defensive Players of the Week for their efforts in holding the high-powered Dartmouth offense at by this weekend. Murphy Earns the honor for the first time in 2003, while Shain garners the award for the second time this season.
Murphy stopped 30 of the 31 shots she faced in UConn’s 1-0 loss to No. 2 Dartmouth, and Shain made 42 saves against the Big Green, allowing only two goals. Dartmouth had been scoring an average of eight goals per game, coming into last weekend's contests in Storrs.
Shain is one of only four goalies in Hockey East with a goals against average under two (1.99), while boasting a save percentage of .936. Murphy’s goals against average shrunk to 2.73 while her save percentage is a solid.910 this season.
UConn is back in action on Saturday, November 22 when the Huskies take on Boston College at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
