UConn Women's Swimming and Diving Tames Dragons

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Nov. 2) - The University of Connecticut’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams rolled to comfortable wins over Drexel on Sunday with the men downing the Dragons 169-108 and the women winning by a 154-109 count at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia.
Amongst the top performances for the Huskies, Dustin Rogers set a pool record with a time of 50.03 in the 100 butterfly while Bridget Regan posted a BIG EAST Championships "A" qualifying time of 4:34.52 in the 400 individual medley.
Rogers was a dual winner on the men’s side, taking the 100 freestyle in 46.81 in addition to his afore mentioned victory in the 100 butterfly. Bill Monaghan also won a pair of events for the Huskies, capturing the 200 freestyle in 1:43.12 and the 50 butterfly in 24.07. Joe Cramer won the 500 freestyle (4:40.79), Connor Murphy won the 50 freestyle in 21.93, Bobby Folan won the 100 freestyle in 53.40, Nick Acquavito won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.12 and Mike McNulty was victorious in the 400 individual medley, swimming a 4:12.32. The men’s 200 medley relay of John Bellinger, Acquavito, Rogers and Murphy also combined to win their event, finishing in 1:35.48.
On the women’s side, Ryan Smith and Diane Duncheskie were both dual winners for UConn. Duncheskie captured both the 50 breaststroke (32.03) and the 50 butterfly (27.61) while Smith captured both the 200 freestyle (1:56.21) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.56). Other women’s winners included Cassie Novak in the 500 freestyle (5:03.06), Katy Cerrito in the 50 backstroke (28.94), Jennifer Chang in the 100 butterfly (59.75), Kydani Dover in the 50 freestyle (25.43) and Heather Grieb in the 100 backstroke (59.78). The women’s 200 medley relay was also victorious as Grieb, Jacquelyn Craft, Cathy Brown and Smith finished their race in 1:49.82.
The UConn swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, November 8 when they play host to Rutgers at 1:00 p.m. in the second of just three home meets for the team in the 2003-04 season.
