PISCATAWAY, NJ (Feb. 15) - Two swimmers from the University of Connecticut swimming & diving team added themselves to the list of qualifiers for the BIG EAST Championships, after swimming at the Rutgers last chance meet on Saturday.
There are two different qualifying standards for the championships--the "A" and "B" standards. In order to swim in the meet, a swimmer must meet an "A" standard in at least one event, and then may swim the events they achieve a "B" standard in.
On the women’s side, sophomore Katy Cerrito (Scotia, NY), who had already "A" qualified in the 100 back and a "B" in the 50 free, picked up another "B" qualifying mark in the 200 Back.
On the men’s side, freshman Jonathan Kunces (Naugatuck, CT) swam an "A" qualifying time in the 200 free. The "A" mark also allows Kunces to qualify in the 100 free with a "B" qualifying time earlier this season.
The BIG EAST Championships will begin on Thursday, Feb. 20 and will run through Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, NY. Log onto the BIG EAST site at for full details on the championships.
