STORRS, CONN. - University of Connecticut head football coach Randy Edsall announced on Wednesday that the Huskies have signed 20 student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent to join the UConn program.
"I’m extremely happy," Edsall said. "We filled our needs. When you look at our board and our overall depth, you could see what we needed to do and I think we accomplished all of those goals. Our coaching staff did a great job and our players did a great job hosting these young men. Our professors and administrators that were involved with this did a great job too."
UConn posted a 6-6 mark in a highly-successful 2002 campaign, highlighted by a 38-0 shutout win at Navy and a convincing 37-20 victory on the road against Iowa State on Nov. 23 in the season finale. The Huskies, who last year ranked fifth in the nation in passing defense and 19th in total defense, joined Division I-A for the 2000 season and will begin play in the BIG EAST Conference in 2005.
