STORRS, CONNECTICUT (February 6, 2003)-- University of Connecticut junior point guard Taliek Brown (Queens, NY) will undergo surgery to repair his broken left index finger, it was announced Thursday.
Brown had x-rays Thursday morning at the infirmary on the UConn campus which confirmed the initial diagnosis Wednesday night that he had a clean break of his left index finger. The break occurred right below where the finger meets the knuckle on his hand.
Brown will have surgery to insert a pin in the finger. The surgery will take place on Friday, February 7 at Windham Hospital in Willimantic. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Michael Joyce, M.D., of the Connecticut Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Willimantic, one of the UConn Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Specialists.
Brown is expected to be sidelined from four-to-six weeks.
Brown was injured with 13:58 left in the game Wednesday night at Virginia Tech when he fell to the floor after being fouled. He left the court to have x-rays taken and did return to the bench prior to the end of the game.
