WASHINGTON, DC (April 27) -- Sophomore Tracy Mullaney (Cockeysville, MD) notched three goals and added an assist, but the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team was defeated, 15-9, to No. 5 nationally ranked Georgetown University on North Kehoe Field, in the nation’s capital. With the win, Georgetown’s sixth in a row, the Hoyas finish the regular season with a 12-3 mark overall and a perfect 5-0 in the BIG EAST. UConn slips to 7-7 on the year and 1-4 in conference play.
UConn struck first, as Mullaney scored the game’s first goal at 27:56 on a free position shot. However, UConn could not manage another goal until Mullaney punched one in 23-minutes later. In that span, the Hoyas notched eight unanswered tallies including three from reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, Wick Stanwick. Mullaney would score again off another free possession shot at 2:01, to pull UConn to within five, but the Huskies would get no closer the rest of the way as Georgetown concluded the half with two more goals and took a 10-3 lead at intermission.
UConn put together a more balanced attack in the second half as six different Huskies scored. Heather Levins (East Northport, NY), Tammy Michel (Baldwinsville, NY), Kariane Lauri (Memphis NY), Heather Bliss (Tully, NY), Abby VanDeusen (Fayetteville, NY) and Dana Stewart (Havertown, PA) all notched scores as UConn outscored the Hoyas 6-5 in the second stanza.
Senior Goaltender April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) stopped 11 Hoya shots including nine in the first half while allowing 12 goals. Jennifer Wong (Greenwood Village, CO) relieved Pollack at 22:52 and made four saves while allowing three goals. Sarah Robinson was solid in net for Georgetown, making 11 saves while allowing six Husky goals. Dosha Straight made three saves and allowed three goals in relief of Robinson.
UConn returns home for Senior Day Saturday, May 3 to take on Towson at Morrone Stadium. Game time is set for 2:00 pm and Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the contest.
