Jim Calhoun Honored With Gold Key

SOUTHINGTON, CT (April 27, 2003) -- University of Connecticut men's head basketball coach Jim Calhoun was honored with The Gold Key award from the Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance on Sunday, April 27, at the group's annual dinner at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Conn. The Gold Key is the highest award that the group gives and honors Connecticut sports greats. Along with Calhoun, the group also gave Gold Keys to former major league baseball player Rico Brogna, Thompson International Speedway Owner and outstanding golfer Don Hoenig and Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference executive director Mike Savage. The UConn women's basketball team was also recognized for winning the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship.
