Ribbon Cut at Rentschler Field

Senior captain Sean Mulcahy, head coach Randy Edsall, Director of Athletics Jeff Hathaway, Governor John Rowland and President Philip Austin pose in the new Husky locker room at Rentschler Field.EAST HARTFORD, CT - Governor John Rowland was amongst the dignitaries on hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday at Rentschler Field, UConn football's new $91.2 million home in East Hartford.
Rowland was joined by East Hartford mayor Timothy Larson, UTC President George David and Mike Mehigen of the state's Office of Policy and Management, amongst others. Over 300 people in all, including members of the design, construction and management teams, attended the event. Youth football and soccer teams also got to test out the stadium's new sod.
The stadium will host its first event on August 8 with the opening ceremonies of the State Games of America while the Huskies will first play there on August 30 when Indiana comes to East Hartford.
