STORRS, CT - The University of Connecticut football team held the first of its weekly media luncheons on Tuesday at the Hale Hall Lounge as the Huskies gear up to play host to Indiana on Saturday at Rentschler Field. Here is a sampling of what was said.
Senior Wide Receiver Shaun Feldeisen
On the expected Rentschler Field crowd:
"There should be a lot of excitement on Saturday in the stands. This is something that Connecticut has never had before. I'm hoping that they'll be into it and be into the game and I'm hoping that we can make it enjoyable for them by getting a W."
On whether he feels comfortable yet at Rentschler Field:
"It actually does. I've visited the stadium a few times now for press conferences, the two scrimmages and when we have events with recruits. The locker room is beautiful. We have our names above our lockers and it really does feel like home. It's a great place to be."
On what he expects from Indiana:
"I hope that they come in ready to play and I know that they will. It's opening day and I'm sure they want to make sure that we lose on our first day in the stadium. It goes both ways."
On the strong end to last season carrying over:
"The winning streak at the end really helped us during the off season, during spring ball and during camp. Especially the Iowa State win. The days get kind of long during the winter and you think about that feeling when we came off that field that Saturday and it gets you pumped back up again. We hope that will carry over. There's been a lot of enthusiasm. It's been a lot more productive off season than in the past. We're hoping to carry that over."
Head Coach Randy Edsall
Opening Statement:
"We're excited about this Saturday and getting ready to play. It seems like it's been a long time coming. Not only playing in a new stadium, but also in terms of all the preparation that has taken place from last winter, through the spring and preseason practice. Our team is ready to go play against somebody else and we're looking forward to a very tough ball game on Saturday."
On Indiana quarterback Matt LoVecchio:
"They've got a quarterback who has experience playing in some big games. He had to sit out a year ago (after his transfer from Notre Dame) but I'm sure he'll be ready to go and get back into competition. We've watched some film on Matt from his days at Notre Dame and he's a very good quarterback."
"The only two players we will not have playing in this game that we expected to have is Tim Lassen and Brandon Young. Offensively, I'm looking forward to seeing us play. We're bigger and faster than we were a year ago, but we still have to execute. I expect us to do some good things offensively if we execute and we don't turn the ball over. We were a +12 in turnovers last year and we need to continue that."
