AMHERST, N.Y. (Sept. 20) — University of Connecticut sophomore running back Terry Caulley rushed for a career-high 234 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Huskies past Buffalo by a 38-7 score on Saturday night at UB Stadium.

Caulley’s 234 yards is the seventh-best single-game rushing performance in school history while the four touchdowns is tied for third. It is UConn’s first 200-yard rushing effort since Tory Taylor ran for 256 against Boston University on Nov. 4, 1995. Husky junior quarterback Dan Orlovsky threw for 236 yards with one touchdown and was 15 of 23 in the air.
UConn’s 613 yards of total offense was just five shy of the school record of 618 yards set on Sept. 30, 1995 in a 39-20 win at Yale.
The stingy Connecticut defense limited Buffalo to just 241 yards on 66 plays and only 133 yards in the first half. UB quarterbacks were a combined 13-for-30 in the game for just 96 yards.
Caulley rushed for three touchdowns in the first half as he opened the scoring with a two-yard carry with 8:21 left in the first quarter. The nine play-82 yard drive featured five carries by Caulley for 47 yards.
A career-long 38-yard field goal by Matt Nuzie with 4:57 left completed the first quarter scoring.
Caulley completed a 13-play, 95-yard touchdown drive three minutes into the second quarter on a two-yard run to make it 17-0.
Buffalo scored its only points of the first half on a a five-yard run by Steven King that ended a four play-24 yard drive that was continued by a muffed punt return by UConn.
Orlovsky connected with Keron Henry on a 30-yard pass for Henry’s first touchdown reception with 5:30 left in the half while a three-yard run by Caulley with 58 seconds left go completed the first half scoring. Orlovsky has now thrown a touchdowns pass in 16 consecutive games.
Caulley’s final touchdown of the evening came in the third quarter on a 27-yard rush with 9:35 left to play. Following that drive, both he and Orlovsky sat for the rest of the contest.
The Huskies travel to Virginia Tech next week to take on the eighth-ranked Hokies at 12:00 p.m. That game will be seen on television throughout the East coast as the BIG EAST Conference Game of the Week and in the Hartford area on WTXX Channel 20.
