Garner Leads UConn to Victory at Army Invitational

WEST POINT, NY (Jan. 17) - With dominating performances, the University of Connecticut women's track and field team ran away from the competition to win the Army Invitational with 212 points, 75 more than second-place Pennsylvania. Junior April Garner (Temple Hills, MD) led the way for the Huskies, taking first place in all four events she competed in.
Garner took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81, first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.78, first in the 200-meter dash in 25.61, and anchored UConn's first-place 4x400 relay team to record her fourth top finish of the day.
Also recording first-place finishes in track events were Nicola Hines (Bridgeport, CT) in the 500-meter dash and Allison McCabe in the 800-meter run. The Huskies dominated the competition in the field events, finishing first in four events and taking a second-place spot in four events as well.
Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, CT) won the weight throw and placed second in the shot put, while freshman Daisy VanRavenswaay (Ontario, Canada) won the shot put and placed second in the weight throw.
Caitlyn Brady had a strong meet, most notably in the triple jump where she placed first with a personal-best jump of 12.23 meters. Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) continued her winning ways in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters to take the top spot.
The team will return to action on Friday, January 23 when the Huskies compete at the Rhode Island Invitational.
