STORRS, CT - University of Connecticut junior quarterback Dan Orlovsky was named to the 2003 ECAC All-Star team on Wednesday in a vote of the association’s coaches. Orlovsky, who helped guide the Huskies to a 9-3 mark in 2003, was the lone UConn player honored.
Orlovsky joins Jamal Lundy (2000) and Terry Caulley (2002) as the lone Huskies to earn All-ECAC honors since the program began its transition to Division I-A in the 2000 season. He is the first Husky quarterback to earn the award since Matt DeGennaro received the honor in 1989 at the Division I-AA level.
Named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2003, Orlovsky set nearly every UConn single season passing record in 2003 and was the trigger man on an offense that ranked eighth in the nation averaging 477.5 yards per game and 10th in passing at 297.9 ypg. Orlovsky ranked seventh in the nation in passing this fall, 13th in total offense, 12th in points responsible for and 33rd in passing efficiency. His 33 passing TDs and 3485 passing yards on the season also ranked highly amongst the national leaders. Orlovsky finished the season on a high note as he orchestrated a 51-17 win at Wake Forest in UConn’s season finale, joining Bernie Kosar of Miami, Kerry Collins of Penn State, and Chris Simms of Texas as the only quarterbacks in the last 20 years to guide a non-conference team to a 50-point game in an ACC stadium.
