UConn Women's Basketball Finalizes Four-Member Signing Class

Storrs, Conn., November 12, 2004 – The following is a list of the University of Connecticut’s Women’s Basketball Letter of Intent Signees as of Friday, Nov. 12, including player notes and a comment by UConn head coach Geno Auriemma.

Kalana Greene, 5-11, Guard, St. Stephen, S.C. (Timberlane HS): Averaged 25.4 points, 17 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 9.0 steals as a junior while leading Timberlake H.S. to its second straight South Carolina Class AAA Lower State championship game…Two-time Charleston Post and Courier Girls’ High School Player of the Year…Posted 26.5 points, 19.0 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 7.0 steals per game as a sophomore…Two-time All-Low Country First Team choice…Nike All-America (2003)…Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention (2004)…Orlando Sentinel All-South Honorable Mention (2004)…Two-Time South Carolina AAA First Team All-State Choice (2003, 2004)…Ranked No. 18 among the nation’s top-100 seniors according to Blue Star and No. 13 according to All-Star Girls Report.
Cassie Kerns, 6-3, Forward, Valparaiso, Ind. (Valparaiso HS): Averaged 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds while leading Valparaiso H.S. to a 23-3 record during her junior season…Posted 13.9 points and 8.9 rebounds as a sophomore… Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention (2003, 2004)…Indiana Girls Basketball Coaches Association (IGBCA) All-State Second Team (2004)…Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention (2004)…Area MVP (2004)…All-Area selection (2002, 2003, 2004)…Lafayette Journal and Courier All-State Third Team (2004).
Renee Montgomery, 5-7, Guard, St. Albans, W Va. (South Charleston HS): Averaged 20.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 5.0 steals as a junior in guiding South Charleston H.S. its second consecutive West Virginia Class AAA State Championship…Street & Smith All-America Third Team (2004)…Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention (2003)…Nike All-America (2003, 2004)…West Virginia Class AAA All-State First Team (2003, 2004)… Ranked No. 21 among the nation’s top-100 seniors according to Blue Star and No. 10 according to All-Star Girls Report.
Tahirah Williams, 5-11, Forward, Montclair, N.J.
