Huskies Edged by Central Florida, 1-0
MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 27) -- The University of Connecticut softball team fell to the University of Central Florida, 1-0 on the third and final day of the Golden Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida International University. The loss drops UConn to 1-3 on the year while the Golden Knights improve to 14-8.
With two out in the bottom of the second, Central Florida’s Kacie Feaster singled to center field to drive in Bryttani Lindheim for the lone run of the contest. Lindheim went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored. Seniors Ashleigh Campen (Rougemont, N.C.), Suzy de Bary (Roxbury, Conn.) and Mandy Schettini (Coxsackie, N.Y.) recorded one hit apiece for the Huskies.
Junior Michelle Caouette (Wyantskill, N.Y.) tossed four innings and allowed one run on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts, but took the loss (0-3) for UConn. Senior Jessica Gurney (Williamstown, Mass.) relieved her and went two innings and allowed no runs on one hit with three strikeouts. Lindsay Enders earned the win (6-5) for the Golden Knights, allowing three hits in a complete-game shutout effort with one walk and four strikeouts.
Senior Stephanie DiBiase (Hamilton, N.J.) was named to the Golden Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team as she went 5-for-14 in the Tournament with two runs scored and two RBI.
Connecticut will remain idle this upcoming week and returns to action on Tuesday, March 8, when the team travels to San Jose, Calif., for a contest against San Jose State at 5 p.m. (ET).
