Moloi Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE R.I. (September 12) - University of Connecticut men’s soccer play Mpho Moloi (Soweto, South Africa) was selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. The senior midfielder received this honor for his performance at the adidas-Brown Classic over the weekend, adding to his all-tournament team accolades.
Moloi, a 2005 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy candidate, was instrumental in helping UConn (4-0-0) shut out No. 24-ranked UNC Greensboro, 2-0, on Sunday in Providence. Spartan leading scorer and fellow Hermann Trophy nominee, Randi Patterson, was held to three shots on the day, none of which were on goal. The senior also played a crucial role in the Huskies’ 2-1 come-from-behind victory over George Mason in the first game of the tournament Friday night.
The Huskies return to action this weekend, as they travel to conference newcomers Cincinnati (Friday, 7:00 p.m.) and Louisville (Sunday, 2:00 p.m.)
