The Huskies, who have claimed three of the last four NCAA titles (a total of five overall) and are fresh off winning the 2006 BIG EAST Championship, will be making their 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and boast a 55-12 (.821) mark all-time in NCAA play.
Connecticut has advanced to the Final Four eight times in the program’s history, including five of the last six seasons overall.
The Huskies earned an automatic bid in the 2006 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament after claiming the BIG EAST Tournament crown for the second consecutive season last week in Hartford.
This season marks only the fourth season since 1994 (and the third consecutive season overall) that UConn hasn’t been selected as a No. 1 seed.
This season marks only the third time Connecticut has been slotted as a No. 2 seed in an NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are 9-1 all-time as a No. 2 seed, which includes six wins and a national championship in the 2004 NCAA Tournament - with all the other games coming during the 1998 event which saw UConn advance to the “Elite Eight” before it was defeated by North Carolina State (60-52 in Dayton).
During nine of the last 12 NCAA Tournaments (since 1994), the Huskies have either won the national championship or have lost to the eventual national champion.
