Softball Inks Three To Letters Of Intent

STORRS, Conn. (July 7, 2006) - Head Coach Karen Mullins has announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Tricia Sullivan, Katie Dombrowski and Justyne Roy will all join the University of Connecticut softball team on the diamond for the 2007 season.
Sullivan, a native of New Bedford, Mass., stared as a pitcher for New Bedford High School throughout her career. The 2006 New Bedford High Female Athlete of the Year, Sullivan accumulated a record of 15-1 in her final season in the circle with a 0.25 ERA for the year. A team captain, Sullivan was a Super Team member three times and also earned All-Conference honors in three seasons. She was named the South Coast Standard Times Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 while also earning All-State honors from the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. The Globe also named Sullivan their 2006 Division 1 Player of the Year.
In addition to her success on the diamond, Sullivan was also a team captain in swimming and indoor track, setting numerous team records in both of those sports.
A native of Delmar, N.Y., Dombrowski saw great success at Bethlehem Central High School. The Bethlehem Central Outstanding Senior in both softball and volleyball, Dombrowski also earned All-Star First-Team honors at first base from the Times Union and the Troy Record in 2006 as well as being named to the Suburban Council Softball All-Star First-Team. A 2005 Wendy's High School Heisman State Nominee, she also earned Suburban Council All-Star First-Team status for volleyball in 2005 in addition to being named the Bethlehem Central Volleyball Player of the Year that same season.
In addition, Dombrowski also received the Sports Foundation of the Capital Region Female Scholar Athlete Award in 2006 for her athletic and academic accomplishments and was the 2006 Bethlehem Central Female Scholar-Athlete. She was also a National Honor Society member.
The third addition to the UConn lineup in 2007 will be Roy, a native of North Dighton, Mass. Throughout her career at Dighton-Rehoboth High School, she was a four-year starter and team captain in softball and was voted Female Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2006. A two-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic honoree, Roy also earned All-Star honors from the Taunton Gazette, Sun Chronicle and the Fall River Herald all four years of her career. An SCC All-Star in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, Roy also led her team in batting average her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
Roy, who graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth with high honors, was also a four-year starter and team captain in volleyball and ran indoor track as well.
