STORRS, Conn. (August 1, 2006) – Tuesday, August 1 was moving day for the University of Connecticut football staff as the Huskies relocated into their new multi-million dollar on-campus home, The Burton Family Football Complex. The hard work of many behind the scenes, and a generous contribution from Robert Burton, has now provided the Huskies with one of the finest football facilities anywhere in America. Here are some photos of happy Husky staffers getting acclimated to their new home.
Left: Equipment managers Don Papio and Matt Schulman stock a shelf full of face masks…Right: Football equipment manager Chris Stasaitis is literally boxed into his new office as he makes a phone call.
Left: The video services staff is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the new facilities. Here, Director of Video Services Dave Kaplan poses for a photo in his new office, a space larger than his former cramped quarters in Gampel Pavilion which he shared with two other staffers and loads of equipment…Right: One of Kaplan’s trusty graduate student assistants, Jon Jepson, connects the DVSport system and projector that will allow one of the football position coaches to show digitized plays in his meeting room.
Left: Head Coach Randy Edsall sits behind his brand new desk, overlooking the Mark R. Shenkman Training Center…Right: Edsall poses in a side room off of his office along side some of the memorabilia there including game balls from big UConn wins and a New Orleans Saints helmet from former Husky linebacker Alfred Fincher who now plays in the NFL for the Saints.
Left: Staff assistant Rebecca Dunstan, who handles much of the logistics of UConn’s recruiting efforts, poses in the new recruiting lobby which will welcome prospective student-athletes. The area is a vast improvement over what welcomed recruits in the team’s old field house office space…Right: Two of UConn football’s academic advisors, Vernon Percy and Ellen Rennie, discuss how much more wonderful life will be in their large new computer lab at The Burton Family Football Complex.
