STORRS, Conn. (October 2, 2007) - The awards continue to roll in for Hermann Trophy candidate Julius James (Maloney Gardens, Trinidad). The senior defender earned Soccer America National Player of the Week honors after propelling the second-ranked University of Connecticut men's soccer team to two more shutout wins over the weekend and a 9-1 record on the season.
James and the Huskies blanked their competition, defeating St. John's 3-0 Friday before taking down Syracuse 1-0 Sunday afternoon. UConn limited its opponents to four shots on the weekend, just one shot in each half of each game, and recorded its seventh shutout of the year. The defensive unit now owns a 0.40 goals against average, surrendering four goals through 10 games this year.
The two-time All-American also scored the game's only goal against Syracuse on a header. The goal was his first of the season and the seventh of his career at UConn.
The Huskies return to action Wednesday night against Hartford at 7 p.m. in Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The Hawks are 5-1-1 on the year after defeating Rhode Island, 1-0, Friday.
