Swimming and Diving Leads Terrapin Cup After First Day of Competition
Diver Stephen Ferreira captures first place in men's one-meter dive
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (November 15, 2007) - The University of Connecticut swimming and diving team's closed out the first day of competition at the Terrapin Cup in first place on Thursday evening at the University of Maryland.
The men hold on to first place with 303 points, while the women are in the top spot with their total of 222 points.
Sophomore diver Stephen Ferreira (Madison, Conn.) took first place in the one-meter dive event with a score of 276.00.
Also pacing the Huskies were Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.), Adrian Astiz (Bethesda, Md.), John Hogan (Walkersville, Md.) and Sarah Kearns (Milford, Mass.).
Marianni finished the women's one-meter dive in second place with a score of 245.65.
Shelps was the second place finisher in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.73.
Astiz took second in the men's 200 individual medley timing in at 1:52.37.
Hogan finished in third place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:35.36.
Kearns was the fourth place finisher in the women's 500 freestyle with her time of 4:56.61.
The men's 400 medley relay team pulled in second place with a time of 3:23.09.
The swimming and diving team's return to action on Friday, November 16 for day two of the three day Terrapin Cup meet.
