All-BIG EAST Teams
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 5, 2007) - Sophomore Jeff Adrien (Brookline, Mass.) headlines the list of the three members of the University of Connecticut men's basketball team to earn All-BIG EAST honors, as announced by the league office Monday.
A Second Team selection, Adrien joins Jerome Dyson (Rockville, Md.) and Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) as UConn's postseason honorees. The freshman duo each earned All-Rookie accolades, with Dyson standing as one of three unanimous selections.
Center Aaron Gray of Pittsburgh is the only repeat selection on the 2006-07 All-BIG EAST First Team. Gray was a unanimous selection along with Georgetown’s Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert, Providence’s Herbert Hill and Syracuse’s Demetris Nichols. The league’s head coaches choose the all-league teams. They are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Adrien finished the regular season as the team and BIG EAST leader in double-doubles, tallying 15 on the year. He started all 30 games at the power forward spot and is No. 2 on the team lead in scoring at 13.4 points per game and No. 3 in the BIG EAST at 9.7 rebounds per contest.
Dyson has started 29 of 30 games this season and leads the squad in scoring at 13.6 points per game. He reached double-figures in 10 of the last 11 games, averaging 19.7 points per game in the last six contests of the season.
Thabeet has started all 30 games and is averaging 6.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots per contest (No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in BIG EAST). He has blocked 117 shots, putting up seven or more in six games this season, while tallying two double-doubles on the season.
When the BIG EAST membership expanded to 16 teams in 2005-06, the all-league teams also were expanded. Eleven players made the All-BIG EAST First Team. On March 6, one of those players will be named BIG EAST Player of the Year when the league announces its individual award winners at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City at 6 p.m. EST.
