HONOLULU, Hawaii (Jan. 12, 2008) – Tyvon Branch and Donald Thomas represented the University of Connecticut on Saturday in the 63rd annual Hula Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. The two Huskies played regularly for the Aina (East) team which won the game 38-7. At right, Branch is shown playing cornerback and breaking up a pass intended for Hawaii wide receiver Jason Rivers of the Kai (west) team.
The Huskies are not done with senior all-star contests however as linebacker Danny Lansanah will play in the Texas Vs. The Nation Collegiate All-Star Bowl on Feb. 2 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The game kicks off at 5:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live by CSTV. Lansanah will play for Team Nation under the direction of Buddy Ryan, the former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and architect of the Chicago Bears’ “46” defense. The first edition of the game saw 12 players get drafted by the NFL and a total of 79 players sign with NFL teams.
