STORRS, Conn. - UConn men's soccer players Josh Ford and Carlos Alvarez earned BIG EAST Weekly honors after the Huskies went 1-0-1 last week with a 4-0 win over Providence before battling West Virginia to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va.
Last week, Ford earned his fourth and fifth straight shutouts of the year in the win over Providence on Oct. 6 and the 0-0 tie at then-RV/25 West Virginia on Oct.10. The redshirt-junior made three saves in the home victory against the Friars and completed the week with four stops at West Virginia. Ford has not allowed a goal since the Huskies' 2-1 loss at Rutgers on Sept. 20. This is Ford's third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor in his career and first this season. Ford shares the honor this week with West Virginia's Zach Johnson.
Alvarez had a career week as he recorded his first collegiate goal, the first tally of the game at the 6:33 mark, in the win over PC. It was UConn's best offensive effort of the season and was Alvarez's first multipoint game of his career. He recorded one goal and two assists for four points.
After a six-point performance against Providence, sophomore Tony Cascio was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Men's Soccer Team of the Week and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll for his efforts.
