PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After recording a season best 16 tackles against Louisville, University of Connecticut junior linebacker Lawrence Wilson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the second-straight week that a UConn player has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after senior Robert Vaughan (North Attleboro, Mass.) earned them last week.
Wilson's game-high 16 tackles was just one shy of his career best recorded at Virginia on October 13, 2007 and were the most tackles recorded by a BIG EAST Player this season. Wilson also had a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery to lead the Connecticut defense that forced four turnovers in the 38-25 victory against Louisville.
Wilson leads the BIG EAST with 66 tackles this season and is ranked 19th in the nation recording an average of 11 tackles per game.
Redshirt senior Andre Dixon (New Brunswick, N.J.) earned BIG EAST Honor Roll honors after his outstanding performance against the Cardinals. Dixon had a career day against Louisville carrying the ball a career-high 33 times for 153 yards and three scores. The three touchdowns ties a career-best recorded at Baylor earlier this season on September 19.
Wilson, Dixon and the Huskies will return to the gridiron on Saturday, October 24 at West Virginia. Game time is set for Noon and the contest will be nationally-televised by ESPNU.
