No. 5 Field Hockey Beats Georgetown 6-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The No. 5 University of Connecticut field hockey team responded with six unanswered goals to rally from a 1-0 deficit to a convincing 6-1 win at Georgetown on Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
The Huskies push their overall mark to 11-0 with the win and 3-0 in BIG EAST action. Georgetown slips to 1-9 following the loss and 1-1 in the league.
Meggie Taylor put Georgetown up 1-0 at 10:32 following a penalty corner opportunity with a goal that was assisted by Kristen Volpe and Annika Bannon.
UConn sophomore Cara Silverman (Roseland, N.J.) knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal at 14:33 of a rebound. Senior Loren Sherer (Essex, England) added to her BIG EAST-leading goal total with her first of two in the game at 18:24 to give the Huskies the lead for good at 2-1.
Ali Blankmeyer (Convent Station, N.J.) and Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) added first-half goals for the Huskies to increase the margin to 4-1 at intermission.
Sherer added her second goal of the game and 18th of the season off a cross from Blankmeyer at 53:34 of the second half to make the score 5-1.
The Huskies capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity for their final score of the contest at 62:08 when Jestine Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) knocked in a feed from Allison Angulo (Mount Bethel, Pa.) and Kim Kryzk (Seaville, N.J.).
For the game, UConn out-shot Georgetown 27-4 and attempted 14 penalty corners while limiting the Hoyas to three.
Connecticut closes out its current three-game road trip with a meeting at No. 7 Princeton on Sunday, Oct. 4 in a 1:00 p.m. (ET) start.
