STORRS, Conn. -- On Wednesday night, the University of Connecticut held at candlelight vigil in honor of Jasper Howard. Howard, a UConn football player, lost his life early Sunday morning in an act of violence. The vigil was attended by approximately 3,000 people.
Among the speakers were UConn President Michael Hogan, Head Coach Randy Edsall, Student Body President Thomas Haggerty, UConn African-American Cultural Center Director Willena Kimpson Price, representatives of the UConn West Indian Student Awareness Organization and a musical performance by student acapella group "A Minor".
An emotional part of the event came when UConn football player Kashif Moore addressed the group followed by Kijuan Dabney, who presented Edsall with an UConn lettermen's jacket signed by Husky players and other member of the campus community for his leadership during this difficult time.
