PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After racking up 286 all-purpose yards, including a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown which helped the Huskies to a 33-30 double overtime win at Notre Dame, sophomore Jordan Todman (N. Dartmouth, Mass.) has been named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week.
Joining Todman on the list of honorees are senior Andre Dixon (New Brunswick, N.J.) and junior Lawrence Wilson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) who each put up outstanding numbers against the Fighting Irish in UConn's stunning victory.
Todman is the first Husky to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season. This is the second time he has received accolades from the BIG EAST this season being named to the Honor Roll back on September 8 after his performance against Ohio.
Todman's touchdown on the long kickoff return answered a Notre Dame field goal and allowed the Huskies to enter the fourth quarter tied at 17-17. Todman, who had 156 yards on four kickoff returns, also ran for a game-high 130 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.
This is the second time this season that Dixon has earned honor roll honors for the Huskies. He first earned the honor on October 19 after his performance against Louisville. Last Saturday, Dixon rushed for 114 yards on 20 carries, including the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime period, in a 33-30 win at Notre Dame. Ninety-six of Dixon's 144 yards came in the fourth quarter and overtime periods.
Wilson had a game-high 16 tackles with a fumble recovery in a 33-30 double-overtime win at Notre Dame. The fumble recovery came at a critical time in the third quarter as Notre Dame was driving towards the endzone. After a 23-yard completion from Jimmy Clausen to Floyd, Robert McClain forced the fumble at the 14-yard line and Wilson recovered stopping the drive and giving Connecticut the ball. This is the second time Wilson has been honored by the BIG EAST this season, as he earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors back on October 19.
The Huskies return to the gridiron this week at Rentschler Field when they take on Syracuse in the BIG EAST Network Game of the Week which will be seen locally on MyTV9-WCTX and SNY.
