Balanced Efforts Lead Huskies to BIG EAST Weekend Sweep

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Four members of the University of Connecticut volleyball team recorded double-figure kill efforts in a 3-1 victory at Seton Hall on Sunday. Freshman Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched her fourth career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs against the Pirates at the Walsh Gym.
Quayle's kill total was third on the team as junior Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) led the Huskies with 17 kills. Sophomore Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) returned to her hitting form with 14 kills while senior Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) totaled 10.
Senior Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) had a team-high 23 digs while freshman Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) joined her double figures with 15. Quayle marked the third UConn player to finish in double-digits in digs with her 11.
A pair of Pirates finished the afternoon with double-doubles as Sarah Osmun totaled a match-high 21 kills and added 10 digs. Hannah Hugeback had 10 kills and 12 digs against the Huskies.
Seton Hall won the third set, denying UConn a sweep after the Huskies took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22. The Pirates won the third, 25-19, before UConn rebounded by the same score to even its overall record (14-14) and capture a 7-5 BIG EAST record with a pair of conference victories this season. With the loss, Seton Hall drops to 11-17 overall with a 5-7 conference record.
Volleyball takes on its final two regular season opponents next weekend with matches at Cincinnati on Nov. 14 and at Louisville on Nov. 15. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m.
Game Notes
- Seventeen kills marks the highest total of junior Rebecca Murray in a BIG EAST match this season.
- The Huskies now lead the all-time series with Seton Hall, 17-9.
- This is the second sweep of BIG EAST play this season for the Huskies who last won matches at South Florida, 3-2 and followed-up with a 3-0 win at Georgetown on Oct. 2 and 4.
- Jessica Isaac matched her season-high of three service aces against the Pirates while Rebecca Murray chipped in two aces.
