Lacrosse Student-Athletes Acknowledged for Academic Achievement

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut lacrosse team was recognized at halftime of the women's basketball game on Tuesday evening at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion for the highest team grade-point average (GPA) in the athletic department this fall. Lacrosse recorded a team GPA of 3.32 and members of the 2009 team were among the 315 student-athletes and team managers to take part in the ceremony.
Eighteen lacrosse student-athletes were named to the to the Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for earning greater than 3.0 GPA. Baltimore natives, Jamie Antonious and Kayla Maleski headlined the group with a fall semester GPA of 4.0. Graduate student Meghan Nanfeldt (Jacobstown, N.J.) recorded a 4.1 GPA this fall while pursuing her master's in social science of sport.
In addition to being named to the athletic honor roll, the following students also earned a spot on the Dean's List: Lauren Gunning (Hunt Valley, Md.), Megan Lally (Westwood, Mass.), Jessica Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Molly O'Brien (Cary, N.C.) and Lauren Sparks (West Chester, Pa.).
Lacrosse returns to the field on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match-up at Hofstra.
