SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 17, 2009) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team brought the offense and dominated American International in a 6-2 victory on the road Tuesday in their largest victory of the year. The Huskies (7-24-1, 6-17-1 Atlantic Hockey), who fell behind for only 2:37 during the first period to AIC (4-25-1, 4-20-0), regained their early lead and went on to win their seventh game of the season.
UConn got out to an early lead when sophomore Matt Miller (Bayonne, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season 7:50 into the game. Miller was aided by freshman Dan Naurato (Northville, Mich.) and senior Brendan Bayers (St. Louis Park, Minn.). After two American International goals within the span of 45 seconds, the UConn defense shut AIC down and continued on a scoring streak of their own.
Freshman Corey Jendras (Abingdon, Md.) helped UConn to tie the game up with just seconds remaining in the first giving UConn some confidence heading into the second period with the game netted at two. The Huskies picked up in the second right where they ended as sophomore Andrew Olson (Alexandria, Minn.) recorded his 11th goal of the year and first since the Huskies first game against the Yellow Jackets on Jan. 27. Olson was aided by Miller who recorded his second multi-point game of his career, and sophomore Jason Krispel (Cypress, Calif.) who tacked on his second assist of the night and 22nd of the season.
Junior Chris Ochoa (Santa Monica, Calif.) added to his goal-scoring streak which now stands at three games with his goal at 14:59 in the second. Sophomores Brian Reagan (Ballwin, Mo.) and Matt Pedemonti (Enfield, Conn.) also continued on their streaks as Reagan's assist-streak extended to four games and Pedemonti's point-scoring streak lengthened to five.
In the third, UConn brought even more offense with senior Nick Schneider (Maplewood, Minn.) and Pedemonti adding another couple of goals to the ever-expanding total. Krispel recorded his third assist of the night on Schneider's goal.
Junior Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) only needed to make 25 saves on the night and went over the 2,300 mark for saves made during his career while five Huskies recorded multi-point games on the night.
The Huskies are back in action this weekend with their final weekend home series of the year against Canisius on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
