Dixon, Witten On Winning Side Of Shrine Game

ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Connecticut football seniors Andre Dixon New Brunswick, N.J.) and defensive end Lindsey Witten (Cleveland, Ohio) played for the winning East team in the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday in Orlando, Fla.
Dixon was the leading rusher for the East team with seven carries for 24 yards. Witten had one tackle -- it was a tackle for a loss of one yard -- and had two quarterback hurries.
The East team was coached by former National Football League coach Romeo Crennel while the West team was coached by former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Dixon and Witten spent the week in Orlando practicing before NFL scouts and general managers and also took part in the various activities of the bowl. They included a visit to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Orlando.
Dixon finished the season as the second-leading rusher on the UConn roster with 1,093 yards and earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors. Witten was a First Team All-BIG EAST pick and had 45 tackles and 11.5 sacks on the season.
Safety Robert Vaughn (North Attleboro, Mass.) and wide receiver Marcus Easley (Stratford, Conn.) will play for the "Nation" team in the Texas Vs. The Nation All-Star Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
