After earning the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST American Division, the UConn Huskies will host Louisville, the No. 5 seed in the National Division, in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round on Thursday, October 28. The game will take place at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday, October 31 at 1 p.m. in South Bend, Ind.
UConn comes into the game with an 8-8-3 record along with a 4-5-2 mark in BIG EAST play. Louisville will begin the postseason with a 10-8 mark based on a 4-7 BIG EAST record.
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies closed out the regular season last weekend with a pair of losses at No. 23 West Virginia, 3-0, and at Pittsburgh, 1-0. UConn was coming into the final weekend of the regular season with a three-game unbeaten streak. UConn still earned a first-round home game in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies finished in fourth place in the BIG EAST American Division.

JOHANSSON LEADS THE WAY: Graduate student Angelika Johansson leads the UConn attack this season with seven goals and 15 points. Juniors Jessica Shufelt and Melissa Busque have both notched 13 points this season. Shufelt has tallied five goals and three assists while Busque has put home four goals and a team-high five assists. Busque also leads the team with three game-winning goals.
DULSKI SHUTTING THE DOOR: Junior goalkeeper Jessica Dulski has started all 19 games this season for the Huskies. She's recorded three shutouts while compiling a .774 save percentage and a 1.08 goals against average. Dulski has combined with sophomore Ally Mancino for four shutouts as well.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Louisville earned the No. 5 seed in the National Division with a 4-7-0 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Louisville owns a 4-4 mark on the road this season. On offense, the Cardinals have a balanced attack with six players tallying at least three goals this season. Freshman forward Christine Exeter leads the team with seven goals and 16 points. Freshman Angelika Uremovich is right behind with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Sophomore Taylor Vancil has played every minute this season in goal. She boasts five shutouts and a .804 save percentage. Those stats have helped produce a 1.61 goals against average.
The Cardinals have barely outscored their opponents this season, owning a 31-29 edge in scoring. UConn and Louisville faced nine common opponents in 2010. UConn went 4-4-1 against those nine teams while UL went 2-7.
Louisville is coach by former UConn great Karen Ferguson-Dayes ('93). Ferguson-Dayes was a three-time First-Team All-American at Connecticut from 1991-93. She helped lead the Huskies to the 1990 NCAA Semifinal. The Huskies lost that game to North Carolina, 6-0.
SERIES HISTORY: The BIG EAST Tournament First Round will mark just the second meeting between the two programs. In the last meeting, the two teams tied in Louisville, 1-1, in 2008. UConn defeated Louisville, 2-1, in Storrs in the first meeting in 2005.
BIG EAST HOME GAMES: UConn owns a 10-3-2 mark in BIG EAST Tournament games held in Storrs. The last time UConn hosted a tournament game was a 1-0 defeat to Georgetown in 2007. UConn's two BIG EAST Tournament Championships were both claimed in Storrs. UConn defeated West Virginia, 1-0, at Morrone Stadium in 2002. The Huskies then defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, to claim the 2004 title in Storrs.
BIG EAST HISTORY: UConn played in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round in 2009, falling to Villanova, 4-1, in penalty kicks. All-time, UConn owns an 18-13-5 record in BIG EAST Tournament games. Those five ties all went to penalty kicks with UConn advancing on three occasions, including the 2004 and 2008 semifinals.
