Moore and Hartley Earn BIG EAST Accolades

STORRS, Conn. - Senior forward Maya Moore has been honored as BIG EAST Player of the Week and teammate Bria Hartley has been named as the conference's Rookie of the Week as announced by the league on Monday. Moore and Hartley have led the No. 1 Huskies to a spotless 3-0 start this season, extending their record winning streak to 81 games.
Moore averaged 27.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the Huskies' three season-opening wins. She registered 30-point games in victories against No. 2/2 Baylor on Nov. 16 (65-64) and Georgia Tech on Nov. 21 (71-51). Against Baylor, she posted a career-high six steals and buried a pull-up jumper with just over a minute remaining to give the Huskies a three-point edge. Against Georgia Tech, the Atlanta native grabbed eight rebounds in her homecoming game.
In her first game at UConn, Hartley had 18 points, four assists and zero turnovers, going 6-for-10 in a 117-37 win against Holy Cross on Nov. 14. She broke into the starting line-up against No. 2/2 Baylor, scoring nine points (eight in the final four minutes), including a clutch 3-pointer to put Connecticut ahead. In a 71-51 victory against Georgia Tech on Nov. 21, Hartley had 15 points, dishing out three assists and grabbing three steals.
Connecticut is back in action on Friday, November 26 when the team welcomes Howard to Storrs in the first game of the World Vision Challenge. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion and will be televised by CPTV. The LSU vs. Lehigh game will precede the Huskies' contest at 5 p.m.
