Huskies To Face RPI In Holiday Tournament Friday.

Storrs, Conn. - Head Coach Bruce Marshall and the men's hockey team will compete in the RPI Holiday Tournament in Troy, N.Y. this coming weekend. UConn will face the hosts at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 26. The Huskies will then face either Bowling Green State or Alabama-Huntsville at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: Connecticut went 1-1 last weekend, falling at Bentley, 3-2, on Friday before defeating AIC in Storrs, 5-4, on Saturday night. Six different players scored on the weekend with 11 different skaters contributing to the score sheet. In the victory over AIC, UConn notched more than three goals for the first time in 2010.
ROAD WARRIORS: UConn has played seven of its first ten games on the road to start the season. In that time, UConn stands at 1-4-2. UConn opens the season with 12 of its first 15 games away from Storrs. Since becoming a Division I program in 1998-99, UConn stands at 69-145-30 on the road.
SERIES AGAINST RPI: UConn will be looking for its first-ever victory over RPI this weekend. All-time, UConn stands at 0-2-1. The lone tie came in 2004 with the Huskies and Engineers each tallying three goals.
ALL-TIME VS. THE ECAC: UConn stands at 15-40-7 all-time against teams from the ECAC. This season, UConn earned a 3-3 tie at No. 13 Union College in its only contest against the ECAC.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS: RPI comes into the game with a 5-3-3 record including a 2-2-0 mark in the ECAC. The Engineers are currently ranked No. 17 in the latest USCHO.com poll.
The RPI defense has been stifling this season, leading the nation with just 1.82 goals allowed per game. Junior goaltender Allen York stands at sixth in the nation with a 1.78 goals against average. York was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 6th round of the 2007 NHL Draft.
The offense is led by senior Chase Polacek, the reigning ECAC Player of the Year and Scoring Champion. Polacek leads the team with five goals, eight assists and 13 points
FACING SIMILAR COMPETITION: UConn and RPI have faced three common opponents in the early part of the season. UConn suffered losses at Bentley and two at RIT while earning a 3-3 tie at Union. RPI stands at 3-1-1 against similar opponents with victories over Union, RIT and Bentley. The Engineers also lost and tied Union this season.
SCHNEIDER LEADS THE WAY: Freshman Cole Schneider continues to lead the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and a team-high six assists after ten games.
MAN DOWN... SO WHAT?: The UConn penalty kill has slowed as of late, allowing three power-play goals to RIT on the weekend of November 12 and 13. However, the Huskies have still allowed just seven goals while on the penalty kill. The 86-percent mark stands at 17th in the nation. UConn has stopped 76 of 83 shots while on the penalty kill.
BALANCED ATTACK: The UConn offense has yet to see its first double-digit scorer but has benefited from a balanced attack. Four players currently lead the team with three goals, while five other players each have two tallies. 19 of the 23 skaters that have appeared in the lineup this season have tallied points.
LATTA AND GALLAGHER HONORED: Freshman Billy Latta and sophomore Jim Gallagher were both named to the AHA Honor Roll for the week of Nov. 22. Latta tallied the first three assists of his career in two games on the weekend while Gallagher tallied a goal and two assists.
SIMS SCORES TWO: Freshman Jordan Sims scored a pair of goals in the 3-3 tie at Union (10/28). Sims is the second UConn freshman to score two goals in a game this season after Cole Schneider netted a pair in the 3-2 victory over Army (10/23).
YEARLY EVENT: Freshman Cole Schneider tallied a pair of goals against Army on October 23, 2010. It marked the first time a UConn player lit the lamp twice in one game since current sophomore Sean Ambrosie tallied a pair in a 4-3 loss at Bentley on October 23, 2009
REAGAN'S THREE POINT NIGHT: Senior defenseman Brian Reagan tallied three points with a goal and two assists in the 3-2 victory at Army on October 23. He was the first UConn player to register three points in a game since Jason Krispel recorded three against Bentley in a 4-3 overtime loss on February 16, 2008.
FILLING THE HONOR ROLL: UConn had three players named to the Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll on Monday, October 25. Freshman Cole Schneider, sophomore Garrett Bartus and senior Brian Reagan were all honored for their performances against Army in the AHA opener.
Schneider put home two goals, including the game-winner while Reagan added a goal and two assists. Bartus denied 35 shots to earn the victory.
50 POINT MARK: Senior forward Justin Hernandez is closing in on 50 points this season. Hernandez began the season at 43 points and sits at 45 overall. Senior Andrew Olson is UConn's active leader with 69 career points.
LOOK TO THE UNDERCLASSMEN: The top-five scorers this season are either freshmen or sophomores. Those top-six players have combined for 13 goals, 24 assists and 37 points. The freshmen and sophomores have totalled 45 of 74 points for the Huskies or 61-percent of the scoring.
