Dee Rowe's First UConn Basketball Team Holds Reunion

STORRS, Conn. -- A very special University of Connecticut Basketball Celebration was held last Friday and Saturday. Dee Rowe joined the University of Connecticut Athletic Family as the head coach of men's basketball in March of 1969 and welcomed back for a 40th anniversary reunion Coach Rowe's first team at UConn were the 1969-70 Huskies.
The 1969-70 Connecticut Basketball squad won the Yankee Conference Championship, was voted the Most Improved Team in New England and head coach Dee Rowe was honored as the New England Collegiate Coach of the Year.
Those who attended the reunion included Rowe, now the Special Adviser for Athletics at UConn, assistant coach Dick Stewart and assistant coach Fred Barakat.
Returning student-athletes were: Nels Nelson, Jim Jachym, Doug Melody, Paul Zorsky, Bobby "Snake" Taylor, Bobby Boyd, Phil Hoagland, Tony Budzinsky, Rob Hrubala and Bob Staak. Bill DeGrazia, the student manager of the team, also returned.
Also back were: UConn Director of Athletics Emeritus John Toner, former Associate Director of Athletics Phil Barry and former Head Athletic Trainer Tom Pike.
