STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut baseball team has been ranked this week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top-30 Poll, the Rivals.com Top-25 Poll and Baseball America's Top-25 Poll.
Last week, UConn debuted in the polls as a No. 25 pick in Baseball America's Top-25 Poll, marking the first time the Huskies had been ranked since they were nationally ranked in the final Collegiate Baseball Poll in 1979. That poll had the Huskies tagged as the No. 8 team in the country after their College World Series appearance.
This week, UConn is ranked 21st in Baseball America's Top-25 poll and No. 19 in the Collegiate Baseball News Poll as the Huskies make their first appearance in the Rivals.com rankings after a perfect week as the No. 22 team in the country.
Last week's National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Top 30 Poll had the Huskies receiving votes, while this week's poll puts the Huskies ranked at No. 27. In the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches' poll, UConn was one of 26 teams to receive votes. UConn was also ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Regional rankings according to the PING!baseball Top-30 Poll.
The New England Divisions I College Baseball (NEIBA) Coaches' Poll also had UConn as the top team in New England as of Tuesday afternoon.
UConn has currently won 15 consecutive games, including 10 straight against BIG EAST opponents. The Huskies have not lost since they dropped a 4-2 decision to then nationally-ranked Louisville on March 27, 2010. The 2010 UConn squad is currently 27-7 on the year and 10-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
The Huskies will begin a busy week of play on Tuesday as they get set to play eight games in nine days, including six straight from April 20-25.
